Bidirectional Charging – Club Zoom Meeting

Date: November 18, 2025
Time: 7 PM
Venue: Zoom
Learn All About Bidirectional Charging
EVs and the grid are friends. With load shifting, EVs can avoid stressing the grid, and with vehicle to grid capability, EVs can support the grid.
A number of club-members have solar with a battery and are compensated to participate in a Virtual Power Plant program where the utilities can tap some of the stored energy during high-demand periods. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is the same idea, only with larger vehicle batteries. It is part of how we can add efficiency and resiliency to the grid. And as with VPP, consumers can get paid to help.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has approved a V2G pilot project, offered through Eversource and United Illuminating. Participants are being enrolled now. At this time, only the Kia EV9 is eligible who live in single family or small multi-family (max 4 units) can participate. There are ongoing discussions with other manufacturers. It is likely that more options will be added, though we may not know by the date of the meeting.
We hope you can join us for what promises to be an enlightening event about the charging frontier.
A representative from the vendor selected by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, Bidirectional Energy, for the vehicle to grid pilot will speak to the club about the details of how bidirectional charging works and how the program is designed. We’ll take a dive into the tech that makes this work and explain what goes into V2G that makes it different than V2H. Some of what we will cover:
- What equipment is involved?
- What makes an EV 2-way capable?
- What is necessary to feed power back to the grid?
- What is the difference between V2G ad V2H, and can the V2G charger also be used for V2H?
- How does using a vehicle for V2H compare to having stationary battery storage?
- How will this work for those who already have a 240 volt charger?
- Does V2G affect battery longevity?
- What is the design of the V2G pilot program?
- What are the financial incentives available for installation and ongoing participation?
Registration:
Registration is free, but we ask that you register at this link in order to get the meeting link.
There will be time for questions.
This is the program information and registration page on the Bidirectional Energy website (registration to participate in the program, not our meeting).
