Construction Finally Begins at a NEVI Site

DC Fast Charger Program Finally Breaks Ground

What is colloquially known as BIL for Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was passed in November, 2021. The program allocated $5 billion of federal funds to support the building of EV charging infrastructure across the country to be matched at a 20% rate by the states taking the money. Connecticut’s allocation was $52 million, excluding the match.

The process moved rather slowly as the state had to put a plan together and have it approved by the Federal Government. That approval was granted in November of 2022. The process of bidding out and and granting of final approval for building these projects was still moving slowly, but at least moving, until it was twice interrupted this past year by the Trump Administration’s efforts to claw back these funds. After two court decisions, the process is again progressing.

The photo above and below is a construction site at 61 Danbury Road in New Milford, which also has a planned site at 4 East Street. Both of these sites were originally Citgo gas stations. The site in the photos is expected to be open in roughly 6 months. All of the planned sites in this first phase of construction are listed below and mapped below that.
